CIRCULATION DESK
The Circulation Desk is the principal service point for library users.
Users may go to the Circulation Desk to
- Borrow and return books from the Open Shelf Collection
- Borrow and return books from the Reserve Shelf Collection
- Place a hold on books borrowed by other users
- Arrange for the viewing of audiovisual material
Membership
- All registered students and members of the Medunsa staff are eligible for membership of the library
- To join the library, bring your student or staff card to the library and fill in an application form at the Circulation Desk
- Library membership is renewable every year
- Outside users may join the library for a fee of R400 for 12 months
- Dr George Mukhari Hospital staff may consult material in the library, but have to join the library as outside users if they want to borrow material
Reserve Collection
This is a collection of prescribed, recommended and other books which are in great demand. The books are kept at the Circulation Desk and can only be used in the library. Lecturers can request that books be placed in this collection.
Loans from the Reserve Collection
A maximum of 2 books can be borrowed from the Reserve Collection for 4 hours only.

INFORMATION DESK
The Information Desk staff will answer brief queries and can help library users to effectively use the online library catalogue.
The Information Desk can help users to locate information. Where necessary, referrals will be made to other library departments.

REFERENCE BOOK COLLECTION
The Reference Book Collection consists of encyclopaedias, dictionaries, handbooks, directories, atlases and other books in which information can be quickly found. These books are for use only in the library.
The Reference Book Collection can be found on the ground floor near the bottom of the main stairway.

AUDIOVISUAL MATERIAL
DVD's, videos, and other audiovisual material required for study purposes can be obtained from the Circulation Desk and viewed in one of the rooms on the first floor. Staff may borrow material for viewing outside the library.
