COPYRIGHT
Copyright is governed by the Copyright Act and gives certain rights to the copyright owner, in particular regarding the reproduction of a work, and must be taken into account before any copies are made.
It is permissible for a student, researcher or lecturer to make limited copies of literary or scientific works for research or private study provided that it is a reasonable portion of a work, e.g. a few pages from a book or one article from a periodical issue. A whole work or a substantial part of it may not be copied.
Where a person would like to do copying that is not covered by the allowances in the Copyright Act, copyright permission must be requested before the copying is done. Permission is always necessary in the case of course notes, study packs or compilations supplied to students that include copies from publications. The library can assist in obtaining the necessary licence.
